WANTED POSTER- Eli Whitney

Eli Whitney
American Inventor and Manufacturer
(Dec.8.1765-Jan.8, 1825)B
Westborough, Mass.

He started a business where he sold nails when the Revolutionary War started. Then he started another business when the Revolutionary War ended, where he was selling hatpins and men’s walking sticks.
He invented the cotton gin. Many cotton planters at Mulberry Grove had a hard time cleaning their cotton and he told them that he knew a machine that could help them. So the Mulberry manager offered Whitney money for his invention. And the cotton gin could clean cotton 10 times better than any person could. Whitney had a downfall when his invention was too expensive to buy so people stop buying it for a while. But Whitney’s invention made him an important person in history. He owned two businesses; one was when the war started and one when the war ended.
